Men's Health - No Sexual Bias Here - Yeast Infection In Men Is Totally Possible

By W.Michael Anderson

No way! Way! Alright stop the snickering guys. We all know that yeast infections are an ailment that favors the fairer sex. But can man get yeast infection? We get embarrassed by two types of ads on TV: ads for Tampons and ads for yeast infection treatments. Both make me cringe and feel uncomfortable. Because of the TV ads for yeast infections, most men including me, assume that only women could contract this disease - official name: Candidiasis. Vaginal (there's another word to snicker at) yeast infections receive a significant amount of attention in print ads, TV ads, pharmacy shelf space and so on.

Perhaps it is time to clear up the misunderstanding about yeast infections. They do not necessarily locate only in the private areas of either men or women. Yeast infections are fungal and prefer moist exposed areas on the human body. The symptoms include irritation, itching, rashes, sores, and white odorless discharges. The actual fungus is named Candida. The likelihood of a yeast infection in man is small when compared to the likelihood of yeast infection in woman. Ergo, the focus of the remedies and advertising is on women.

Because yeast infection in man is relatively rare, men do the man thing and ignore it completely. Penile yeast infection is serious. If you suspect you have a yeast infection, then eliminate it before it gets worse. Untreated, it can lead to arthritis, chronic fatigue, shortness of breath and worse symptoms like sexual dysfunction. Because it is not a common ailment, over the counter and prescription drugs recommended as a solution for penile yeast infection are not easy to locate. But as a side note, except in an emergency, why would anyone use a pharmaceutical product today? With all the recalls, product warnings, side effects, tampering threats and so on, it almost seems that you are more likely to become ill if you take a pharmaceutical product than if you do not. Also, pharmaceutical products seldom if ever offer cures. They offer treatment. Treatment, which from their perspective, is life long. OK, back on topic, how can we address yeast infection in man and achieve control of the symptoms if not a cure? Yeast is a fungus and we should use our common sense and follow a regimen which discourages fungus and the associated yeast infections.

Practicing safe sex is an obvious first step in the right direction. But if we are looking for a solution which is not sex specific, then a yeast infection diet is also an obvious step in the right direction. There are foods which fight yeast infections. There are foods which discourage yeast infection. And finally there are foods which help our bodies fight yeast infections.
